Transforming Lunchtimes at Chadsmoor Community Infant & Nursery School: A Headteacher’s Perspective

Before School Health UK's Better Lunchtimes Project, lunchtimes at Chadsmoor Community Infant & Nursery School were challenging.

Jenny, the headteacher, recalls, "It was too loud, with poor behaviour and frequent accidents on the playground. Staff weren’t proactive, which only added to the chaos."

However, since implementing the recommended changes, the school has seen major improvements. "The behaviour of children in both the dining hall and playground is much calmer now. Staff are more effective as they have clear roles, and with reduced numbers and better play activities, accidents have decreased," Jenny explains.

The transformation has not only impacted the children's behaviour but has also improved staff morale and efficiency. "Staff are happier and more proactive in their roles," Jenny notes. The structured changes have created a lunchtime environment that is far more enjoyable for both pupils and staff.

When asked if she would recommend School Health UK, Jenny didn’t hesitate. "Absolutely!" she says enthusiastically, grateful for the positive changes that have taken place at her school.
