Transforming Lunchtimes at De Lucy Primary School: A Success Story

Before the Better Lunchtimes Project, lunchtimes at De Lucy Primary School faced challenges across both the playgrounds and dining halls. Abi, the Deputy Headteacher, recalls, “Playgrounds were disorganised, and the dining hall was chaotic."

These issues made it difficult for staff to manage pupils effectively, leading to a less structured and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Following the intervention by School Health UK, the school saw immediate improvements, particularly in the playground. "The playgrounds are now organised and structured, creating a calmer and safer environment," Abi explains.

By introducing zones and activities, children are more engaged and better behaved, significantly reducing incidents and disruptions.

Lunchtime staff are now more proactive, and the new structure has given them the tools they need to manage lunchtimes more efficiently. Children are not only enjoying lunchtimes more but also benefitting from the improved organisation, which has created a more positive experience for both staff and students alike.

"The process was great," Abi adds, highlighting how School Health UK worked closely with the school to address key areas of improvement. The changes have not only enhanced the overall lunchtime experience but have also fostered a more collaborative environment among staff.

When asked if she would recommend School Health UK, Abi was quick to answer, “Yes!” The school’s lunchtime transformation is a testament to the power of focused, structured improvements that benefit the entire school community.
