Before the Better Lunchtimes Project came to Sharps Copse Primary, lunchtime was a real challenge.
Gianina Severs recalls high levels of disorganisation, noise, and lunchtime reflection incidents.
Many children lacked essential eating skills, and staff felt overwhelmed, with some even dreading their lunchtime duties. It was a rushed and chaotic environment that left little room for quality outdoor play.
Since implementing the Better Lunchtimes Project, the transformation has been remarkable. The hall is now a calm, structured space where both children and staff feel more at ease.
Lunchtime supervisors are enjoying their roles and are more engaged, becoming an integral part of the school community.
Notably, lunchtime reflections and first aid incidents have dramatically decreased. Gianina highlights that children are not only enjoying lunchtimes more but are also behaving better.
School meals have increased, and the overall process was described as smooth and structured, with clear goals and supportive staff that provided constructive feedback.
“The transformation has been a success,” says Gianina.
The clear improvement in behaviour, staff morale, and overall lunchtime experience showcases the value of the Better Lunchtimes Project.
If your school is struggling with similar issues, Gianina’s experience at Sharps Copse shows the incredible impact of bringing in experts to overhaul lunchtime operations.
